Project Synopsis

Health care workers operate in diverse spaces and rely on a variety of handheld tools and implements to perform their daytoday duties when attending to patients. Efficient, wearable storage and disinfection of their handheld tools is essential in ensuring optima job performance and keeping patients safe. UV lighting has been safely and effectively used in hospital environments to sterilize operating rooms prior to surgery. Personal UV disinfection devices are currently commercially available for the general public. However, none of the available devices provide a wearable accessory suitable for healthcare workers to readily store and disinfect their regularly used handheld implements for onthejob use. This project proposes a textilebased, wearable storage system and disinfection compartment: the system will include storage space for multiuse handheld tools and a secure, softsided compartment that utilizes UVC light for rapid disinfection of tools for noncritical medical use.

Project Objective

It aims to develop a softsided, flexible, textilebased wearable UV disinfection device to aid health care workers in the storage and disinfection of their essential handheld tools and implements.
