Praxis Spinal Cord Institute

Praxis Spinal Cord Institute is a Canadian-based not-for-profit organization that leads global collaboration in spinal cord injury (SCI) research, innovation, and care. We advance ground-breaking ideas that can be put into practice, making lives better. By using SCI knowledge translation to bridge health evidence with real world delivery, we work to make exceptional improvements in the health of people living with SCI. Praxis is an Ancient Greek word that means a process by which theory is applied practically. This is exactly the work we do – moving knowledge into action.

Spinal cord injury is a complex chronic condition, with health care needs that begin at injury onset and continue throughout an individual's life in the community.

The Praxis Care program is focused on identifying and filling gaps in knowledge regarding the clinical management of SCI, and ensuring best practices are implemented nationally to improve care delivery and outcomes for all Canadians living with spinal cord injury.

Optimized care relies on evidence-based best practices, supports for introducing and incorporating clinical practice changes, mechanisms for measuring progress and evaluating the impact of practice changes, and a framework to guide the implementation of best practices and people-centred care throughout the country.

The objective of the Care Program is to achieve evidence-informed equitable and optimal care across the SCI care continuum, to ensure the best possible health outcomes in individuals with spinal cord injury. Supporting the Can-SCIP Guideline aligns with the Care Program strategic goal of improved and standardized delivery of care across Canada.
