Submissions Open for Poster and 3MT Competitions

The top 14 posters in the poster competition will be considered for full-length publication in a special interdisciplinary issue of the Journal of BioMedical Engineering Online.

Researchers are used to long explanations. After all, the average PhD thesis is 80,000 words and takes nine hours to present. But in the Three Minute Talk (3MT) competition, brevity is key. Presenters only have three minutes to get their point across.

This competition is one of the highlights of the International Conference on Aging, Innovation & Rehabilitation (ICAIR), which takes place May 1, and 2, 2025 in Toronto. ICAIR attracts the world’s top experts in health care, rehabilitation, engineering and age-tech.

Authors of the top 20 posters in ICAIR’s poster competition are invited to participate in 3MT.

“I think it’s critical that all researchers learn to describe why our work matters to the general public in a concise way,” said KITE scientist and 3MT organizer Dr. Tilak Dutta.

“At some point in most of our careers, we’ll be asked to stand up and present something to a large group of people. This can be very scary, especially if we haven’t done much of this type of presenting. 3MT is a good opportunity to hone this skill.”

In addition to publishing the top posters, BioMed Central (BMC), Springer Nature’s biomedical research publishing arm, is also sponsoring this year’s 3MT presentation.

“As part of BMC’s dedication to the publication of the best open access research in biology, health sciences, and medicine we are proud to sponsor ICAIR and its pursuit of innovation in aging and rehabilitation science,” said Jonathan Stutte, a publisher at Springer Nature Group.

“It’s our hope that with this continued partnership, ICAIR continues to broaden its positive impact on the scientific community in rehabilitative medicine and innovation.”

The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.
