The pair were recognized by a committee of their peers for their outstanding research
Drs. Andrea Iaboni and Kristin Musselman were given the KITE Recognition Award for Excellence in Research at the Institute’s annual holiday party this week.
Each year, the Annual Activity Report Review Committee recognizes one senior scientist and one scientist who have excelled in one of the four review categories: leadership and mentorship, community service, impact, and research.
This year the award focused on excellence in research.
Dr. Iaboni, the Medical Lead of the Specialized Dementia Unit at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, was recognized in the senior scientist category for her innovative approach to dementia care. Her research focuses on leveraging technology to enhance dementia care in long-term care.
“It is an honor to have the effort and passion I’ve dedicated to my work recognized,” said Dr. Iaboni. “It provides me with the opportunity to reflect on the journey so far and celebrate my excellent research team, students and co-investigators, who make this work possible.
Dr. Musselman, a Senior Scientist at KITE and Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto, earned the award in scientist category for her work developing approaches to restore movement and function to individuals with neurological impairments.
This is the second year in a row Dr. Musselman has been recognized by the Annual Activity Report review committee. Last year she received the KITE Innovation and Impact Award for her leadership in developing and implementing a standardized approach to the assessment of walking ability during inpatient spinal cord injury rehab.
“Winning this award and being recognized by my peers, all talented and successful researchers, is very meaningful. KITE has been my research home for 10 years, and I am grateful for the people – generous collaborators and mentors and incredibly supportive staff,” said Dr. Musselman.
“This award also recognizes the amazing group of RSI graduate students and lab coordinator (Katherine Chan) that I get to work with every day.”
Dr. Musselman is now a Senior Scientist at KITE but was a scientist when these awards were adjudicated.
