Internal UHN Grant Opportunity
The UHN Research strategic initiative to 'Engage Every Patient' aims to strengthen our learning health system by embedding patient engagement in research (PER) within our values, structures, practices and metrics of success within UHN Research.
One of the mechanisms for building capacity for PER through the Pride in Patient Engagement in Research program is offering grants and awards to individuals with project proposals designed to:
- Generate new knowledge or increase understanding of Patient Engagement in Research;
- Support knowledge translation and dissemination activities and events that focus on meaningful and authentic patient engagement in research
- Support planning activities and partnership development with community organizations to increase understanding of PER and contribute to the UHN strategic mandate to Engage Every Patient
- to support organizational programs, processes, and activities that ensure the inclusion and meaningful representation of diverse individuals into the research enterprise at UHN
Funds Available
We are offering $40,000 in awards to be distributed to up to 4 separate dyads (Scientist and patient partner) whose proposed activities are consistent with the PiPER mandate at UHN.
Eligibility
Each application must include a Principal Applicant who is either an independent researcher at UHN, or other UHN personnel who is a PER knowledge user or trainee with expertise and/or interest in PER. Two (2) of the four (4) grants are reserved for individuals who attended the PER Strategic Planning session at UHN on May 4th, 2022.
Projects must be able to be completed within a 1 year timeframe.
Proposal Instructions
All proposals should be submitted to the Chair, UHN PER Steering Committee for consideration. Proposals must include the following:
- Lay Summary (1/2 page)
- Your biography (1/2 page)

Project Description (4 pages)
- Problem Statement or Need
- Purpose and goals of the project
- Background, context, literature review
- Methodology, outcomes or deliverables
- Evaluation, Dissemination criteria (1 page)
- Personnel & Resources/ Budget required (1 page)
Proposal Deadline
Deadline for Proposals is 11:00 PM EST on September 9, 2022
Funding Notification will be provided in October 2022.
