Andrea Bandini

Andrea Bandini, PhD, is a Scientist at KITE Research Institute and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine. A biomedical engineer by training, he holds a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Bologna, where his doctoral work focused on quantitative approaches for the analysis of speech and orofacial functions. His research focuses on the development of artificial intelligence and multimodal technologies for the objective assessment, monitoring, and prediction of speech and swallowing impairments. His work combines computer vision, signal processing, wearable sensors, and machine learning to quantify clinically relevant aspects of speech, orofacial function, mastication, and swallowing. His broader goal is to translate these technologies into practical tools that support personalized assessment and rehabilitation for people with neurological and communication disorders. He previously conducted postdoctoral research at KITE, where he developed technology-based methods for the assessment of motor and orofacial function in neurological populations.
