Farooq Ismail
Dr. Farooq Ismail is a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry).
Dr. Ismail completed undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Kinesiology at McMaster University, prior to pursuing his medical training at Western University in London, Ontario. He then returned home to Toronto to complete his specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Ismail is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Ismail is a consultant Physiatrist at West Park Healthcare Centre in Toronto, where he provides care to patients requiring neurological and musculosketetal rehabilitation.
His area of interests and expertise include adult spasticity management, stroke, brain injury and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, electrodiagnostic and musculoskeletal medicine.
One of his areas of passion is the diagnosis of adult spasticity and management with botulinum toxin. This is an area of focus for his research and teaching.
Dr. Ismail has been instrumental in developing a transdisciplinary adult spasticity management program at West Park Healthcare Centre, utilizing technology to collect patient data that furthers his research and educational pursuits in this area of medicine.
Dr. Ismail has published extensively in the area of adult spasticity and continues to be involved locally, nationally and internationally in resident and physician education.
Dr. Ismail is an award-winning educator. He has spoken and taught internationally on the topic of adult spasticity management with botulinum toxin.
His clinical work has drawn the attention of media outlets that have enthusiastically promoted his expertise.
Dr. Ismail continues to be the co-chair of the Educational Excellence in Spasticity Management program, that delivers virtual and in-person training to Canadian physicians seeking to develop or enhance their skills in managing adults with spasticity.
