Abstract
Pelvic floor disorders are a very prevalent entity and generate a growing demand in today's society. This type of alterations include: voiding, defecatory and sexual alterations, as well as pain. The prevalence of these dysfunctions is much higher in people suffering from nervous system disorders. It is estimated that around 85% of patients with stroke suffer from these disorders in the acute phase, as well as on an outpatient basis. Similar figures are handled in other pathologies such as spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease or Multiple Sclerosis, among others, adding more difficulties to their innumerable changes in activities of daily living.
In this context, health professionals must know the problems derived from these pelvic floor alterations, as well as the possible therapeutic indications in order to provide greater coverage to their needs and improve their quality of life. It has been shown that this type of dysfunction can influence their walking ability as well as the risk of falls, so they must be under the knowledge of therapists who are dedicated to neurorehabilitation.
This training is intended to help promote the integration of pelvic floor dysfunctions in the neurological patient in a general way, without intracavitary work, through clinical experience and the support of the most current scientific evidence.
